Abstract
This study was aimed at gathering data, when engaged in group play therapy in the fields, and to also gather empirical data on the effects of group play therapy. For this purpose, we synthesized and analyzed the effects of group play therapy programs over the last ten years, using a meta-analysis-a systematic approach, by using summaries and reviews of the previous literature. We analyzed the studies published in major nations, 30 studies(effect size samples n= 293), were chosen, using meta-analysis. Group play therapy program groups showed much more significant effects than control groups. According to the results in terms of the effect size of the classification of the play therapy program types, it was statistically significant effective sizes in order of the game play, theraplay, using play, expressive-arts play, and play therapy. From the results of the analysis of the effect sizes in this group play therapy program and related variables, showed that there were statistically significant effective sizes in order of the infants individual variables, rearer variables, and related variables. The intervention variables were categorized according to whether the subjects were high school students, junior high school students, elementary students, or infants, and these intervention variables were then analyzed. The effect size order was as follows; high school students, junior high school students, infants, and elementary students. Statistical significance was observed in the order of 10~20 sessions, 20~30 sessions, under 10 sessions to effect sizes according to the total program sessions. Statistical significance was observed in order of whether there were 10~20 members, 20~30 members, under 10 members to effect sizes, according to the total subject members. Lastly, after coding the published years to integers, inputting variables and then doing the regression analysis according to the published years, there were also clear improvements observed on the effect sizes.
